After housetraining – can I get a lie-in?

When they are puppies we train them that if they wake and cry we will take them out. Good – we don’t want accidents in the house.

But how do you move on from that and stop the habit of them waking you up just because they feel like it/think it is time to get up?

Coco thinks that when the sun comes up and the dawn chorus starts it must be time to get up. With the lighter mornings she is now getting me up before 6am and I’m becoming exhausted and falling asleep by 8.30pm.

Is it just a case of putting up with the crying and ignoring it for 5 or 10 minutes and making it longer each day?

At least I might get a bit of respite for a few days with the clocks changing.
