Any tips for relieving arthritis

Our akita Caboo is nearly 8 now and his back hips are starting to get stiff not painful as far as I can tell but he’s not the type of dog to show pain. The vet said to just watch it for the minute before he put him on any kind of medication. Obviously we’re reducing his exercise and he’s not going to be running agility anymore or at least the jumping part of it. Does anyone have any tips for reducing the stiffness? It’s been a while since I’ve had an old dog, apart from Ming obviously and hips are about the only thing not wrong with him, I forgot just how hard it is to watch them grow old like this.
